Mother of the Bride Job 1: Cruisin' for Wedding Donuts

April 21, 2017

Our daughter is getting married in September.  She lives in Seattle and the wedding is taking place in Florida.  Therefore, as the mother of the bride or MOB for short, I am trying to help coordinate things.  Both the bride and groom are kind of partial to donuts.  When he wanted to propose to her, he suggested they go to their favorite donut shop - but then he made a detour and went to a park to pop the question.  Of course she said yes, but then wanted to know if she could still go get a donut.

Having said all that, it's easy to understand how they would want a donut tower instead of a cake at their wedding.  Only problem is, their favorite donut shop is in Seattle.  I don't think we can ship donuts to Florida and expect them to be fresh for a wedding.

So one of my jobs has been to go on a donut-tasting tour.  I know, it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.  It's for my only daughter, and I would do anything for her.  Started out with the obvious donut stops, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin, several bakeries in town.  I didn't take pictures of every place I stopped, but trust me, I took this job seriously.

Yesterday I found these beauties.  Got a selection of glazed, chocolate covered, strawberry iced and maple bacon covered.  I sent the picture to my daughter and told her what they all were and she reminded me that they are vegetarian and wouldn't eat the maple bacon covered ones.  I really got that one out of curiosity, because that is such a trendy thing right now.  In my opinion, it was not very good.  I like bacon and I like maple icing, but not together.   This box is a nice presentation, but. . .

This morning I went over a toll bridge (these donuts are costing a lot of money) and drove to Milton to try these guys from Milton Quality Bakery.  The presentation may not be as pretty as the previous one, but these were some good donuts.

Of course I had to try them out - one of each.  I LOVE my job.

Sent these pictures to my daughter and said I think we have a winner.  She said they looked good. Then I gobbled those babies up.
We are going to see my daughter in a couple of weeks to check out wedding dresses and she suggested we could look for my MOB dress.  Oh no, I HATE my job.  Guess My Mr. B is going to have to eat the rest of those donuts.  Please excuse me now while I go do some sit-ups.

Thanks for stopping by!  I enjoy good company.  Wait until I do another donut run, though.

  1. Fun - Everyone loves doughnuts! Neither my daughter or her husband care for cake, so we had a different cheesecakes displayed on different levels of cake stands. People thought it was a fresh idea because who doesn't love cheesecake, too? :)

  2. That is quite a precarious job....walking the line between donut tester and dress shopping! We have a great donut shop called Donut King near us. People travel for miles to get their fare. Open 24 hrs a day too. Personally I like their apple fritters best and they're HUGE! Come on down for a visit and a taste test. Congrats by the way on upcoming wedding!

    1. Annette, thanks for the good wishes. I may have to wait and try Donut King after the wedding because it's going to be a tight fit with the dress as it is.
