Learning to Be Organized - REALLY!!

January 29, 2018

Bailey suggested our word for January.  Be Organized!  Really, only for a month?!  Although I didn't contribute much (not at all) in January, I was working it.

First, when I put away my Christmas decorations, I organized my boxes a little more.  There were lots of things that were broken or worn out that would never be used again.  Some of them I saved for sentimental reasons over the years, but why?  So when we put Christmas away, there was one less big box that needed to be packed up.  Yes, that's right, a whole box of stuff gone.

Then I cleaned out my special pantry in the laundry room.  Was able to get rid of things I never use and made room for dishes I want to use.  Then it was on to the food pantry.  Took everything out. Threw away all those cans of pears that had expired two years ago.  My Mr. B went through a cottage cheese and pear snack period.  He asked that I always have plenty of pears and cottage cheese for him.  He's over that now - just explaining why I had so many pears.  There were other various and sundry items that had expired that were way in the back.

I did find three bottles of catsup, three bottles of mustard, and two jars of mayonnaise.  We need to have a bunch of people over for hamburgers and hot dogs.

Now here we are at the end of the month.  I love that dishes I couldn't or wouldn't use before, because they were put away and hard to get to, are right there for me whenever I want to use them.  I have more room in my food pantry.  I've been planning meals around the ingredients I found.

But I'm going to be honest - I want to re-do January.  Between colds, the flu, and other activities I don't feel like I did as good a job as I could have.  Every time I open my pantry I think of other ways I could organize it.

So yes - this Be Organized business is going to take a little longer.  Thanks for the push and suggestions, Bailey.

And I'll let you all know when we have the hamburger and hot dog nights.  You don't have to bring a thing - I have ALL the condiments.

  1. You just call out my name and you know wherever I am, I’ll come runnin’ - and I’ll bring dessert.
