Soar with Reading! [Be the Good]

July 12, 2019

As an avid reader I LOVE THIS!  During the summer Jet Blue and New York City are changing the lives of children.  One by One.

Six thoughtfully designed vending machines that dispense brand-new, free books for kids aged 0 – 14 have been placed in five boroughs of New York City. Kids are allowed to take as many books as they are interested in – no strings attached — in hopes that providing free access to books in a fun and convenient way will encourage reading.

The Soar With Reading program from Jet Blue will replenish the vending machines every two weeks so kids can keep coming back for new selections of books.
"Book ownership does help raise levels of intelligence in kids.
It raises curiosity, it raises their ability to feel conscious, aware and motivated to keep on learning."
As a 10-yr-old who loved to read, Marley Dias couldn't find books with main characters of color.  So then what?  She started her own literacy awareness campaign, #1000BlackGirlBooks.  Now, three years later, Marley has collected and donated 12,000 books!

When was your Book Drop moment?  When your love reading took off?

Share it by using #BookDrop and tagging @JetBlue.

For every post shared, Jet Blue will donate a book to communities with limited access to books.

"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free."  Frederick Douglass

If you haven't read a good book this summer, what are you waiting for?
